I am a graduate student at the Washington State University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. As a student I have a goal of furthering my education to become a Doctor of Pharmacy. As there is often a need for pharmacists in rural Alaska an ultimate goal is to serve in an Alaska Native (AN) community. I would like to practice my Doctor of Pharmacy in Unalakleet, Alaska which would allow me to give back to the native community in both a cultural aspect and in the healthcare field that I am passionate about. I have spent many summers there as it is my father’s hometown; immersing myself into my Inupiaq culture, learning to give back by gathering subsistence foods, and hunting. Receiving my doctorate in pharmacy will fulfill my long-term desire to advance healthcare services in AN communities.
